Susan has always loved hats. She has completed City and Guilds in Millinery Levels 2 and 3 and continues to develop her skills with online and in-person courses, and practice!
Susan loves designing and creating unique hats for her clients.
Clients can visit the studio at Meldrum Millinery, where Susan assists them to choose the best hat for that special occasion or to purchase a statement piece for their wardrobe.
Traditional hat making
Susan uses traditional techniques to create hats for both ladies and gentlemen. The Art Nouveau and Art Deco eras inspire elements of her work, as well as curves, textures, and colours found in nature.
Susan enjoys working with a wide variety of materials, including felt, straw, textiles, leather, and thermoplastics and particularly relishes the challenge of sourcing and designing with vintage and pre-loved fabrics and trimmings.
